Proteinuria is one of markers of renal disease. The detection of a proteinuria should be occasion for further medical examination. Usually, a screening for proteinuria is performed by means of urine dipsticks. This method is very important for a preselection of. potential patients with kidney disease, but it has some disadvantages. In fact, some renal diseases are connected with a form of proteinuria which cannot be detected with the help of urine test strips.
A modern laboratory diagnosis of proteinuria should allow not only the detection of any pathological protein excretion but also the quantitation and differentiation of protein patterns. Different forms of a proteinuria (glomerular proteinuria and tubular prteinuria) can be defined using sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel elect rophoresis (SDS -PAGE).
We analyzed 30 patients proteinuria using SDS-PAGE. The SDS-PAGE has been shown to be useful for molecular size separation of urinary proteins. A routine method of SDSPAGE we used is described.
